Dyslexia: Idaho House Bill 731 requires professional development for Idaho educators on Dyslexia. NNU is collaborating to develop approved professional development that meets the requirements of HB 731. We will provide more information when options are available for districts and individuals. Montana, Ohio, and Oregon also have mandated requirements for professional development around Dyslexia.
Literacy: Insights from reading researchers illuminate three main goals to improve literacy instruction in 2022 and beyond:
Improve teacher training through required professional development.
Adopt reading curricula that align with the science of reading.
Frame literacy as a social justice issue with the urgency and care it deserves.
Our partner STRIVE and the Science of Reading align credit with NNU. If your district is using Striving Readers, we can attach credit to the work you're already doing. Examples of states with this type of requirement: Colorado, North Carolina and Missouri.
Social and Emotional Learning: Social-emotional competencies are implied in many traditional state standards, which require skills in areas like teamwork in areas like math and English, but few provide the roadmap necessary to nurture those skills. Currenlty 27 states have jointed the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning with all 50 states adopting pre-k standards in SEL. This demonstrates a commitment by states to prioritize professional development in Social and Emotional Learning.
If you're looking for professional development related to dyslexia, literacy, or social and emotional learning, we have excellent resources in our catalog.
If your district provides "in-house" training, we can attach credit to the work your district is already doing! Send an email to pdcoordinator@nnu.edu
